What is Lol Esport?

League Of Legend or we say LOL Esport, or electronic sports, is a form of competition using video games. The most popular examples of e-sports include multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games like League of Legends and DotA 2, first-person shooters like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, fighting games like Street Fighter V, and real-time strategy games like StarCraft II. Following below are some examples of video games that require skill, not only in terms of hand-eye coordination but critical thinking skills as well. They are complex games with high learning curves for beginners (competing at a professional level requires thousands of hours of practice), but they allow for creative strategies and make for exciting competitions once you master one. Just like professional athletes, many e-sport players make huge salaries thanks to endorsements and winnings.

League of Legends (also known as LoL) is a MOBA developed by Riot Games that has become extremely popular since its release in 2009. LOL Esport game features two teams of five players whose goal is to destroy the enemy team’s base (known as a Nexus) while defending their own. Each player controls only one champion, with some champions (such as Annie above) representing an easily identifiable character archetype with certain strengths and weaknesses. Before joining one of three game modes, the classic five versus five-mode, teams play against AI-controlled bots in a tutorial mode and in what’s known as ARAM (All Random, All Mid), which is a game mode where players only control champions that are randomly given to them. The games are short, lasting around 20 minutes on average, and the action is non-stop, making LoL an extremely exciting spectator sport.

The professional LoL scene has been growing rapidly in recent years. The first LoL World Championship was held in 2011 and featured a $100,000 prize pool. By comparison, the 2017 edition of the tournament had a prize pool of over $4 million. The tournament is now held annually, with the most recent one taking place in China in November of 2018. Even the tournament is also streamed live on Twitch, the most popular streaming platform in the world. The finals for this year’s LoL World Championships had an estimated 100 million views across all platforms, with roughly 15 million unique viewers tuning in to watch them unfold.
